History of the place

The lord is named Deiva Nayaka Easwarar as he assumed commandership for the Deva forces against the Thiripura Asuras (demons). As per the purana, Lord Ganesha broke the axis of Lord's chariot as the devas (who followed the Lord) passed without worshipping Lord Ganesha. But Lord Vishnu prevented the chariot from falling down. The Kondrai garland in Shiva's neck fell down and became a swayambulinga. Also as the celestial deva kannikas (Arambas) worshipped this lord to maintain their beauty, the Lord gets the name Arambeswarar. The Lord encountered Thirugnana Sambandhar as a old person and asked him to praise the Lord there.
