The Devas of the celestial world were defeated by Asuras (Demons) and driven away from their place. The devas surrendered to Lord Vishnu at Oushadhchalam and the Lord promised to help. The Asuras sought the help of Lord Shiva to win again. and the Lord also promised to help. When the Devas lost again, Lord Vishnu applied his discus (Chakrayudha) at the Asuras and killed them. When they surrendered at His feet, Lord Vishnu gave darshan as Brahmma, Vishnu and Shiva. As the Lord was the captain of the Devas, hence the name Devanatha. Adisesha built a town for the Lord which is nown called Thiru Ahindi (Adisesha) Puram (place) - Thiruvaheendipuram.
Mangalasasanam by Thirumangai Azhwar and Acharya Maha Desikan. This is the 42nd temple out of the 108 divya desams.
The Lord Perumal is under the Suddha Satwa Vimana and the temple conducts 6 pujas a day according to Vaishnava rules. Thiruvaheendipuram was constructed by Adishesha (the divine serpernt). As Lord Brahmma did penance here, this place is known as Brahmmachalam. The Garuda Nadhi that flows here is considered equaivalent to Holy Ganges. As a piece of Sanjeevi mount fell here (when Hanuman carried to Lanka), this place is also called Oushadhachalam. Lord Lakshmi Hayagriva temple here is the first ever temple raised for the Lord Hayagreeva. Acharya Vedanta Desikan had this Lord's darshan and was granted several boons. Lord Perumal was thirsty and ordered Garuda to bring water. As Garuda delayed, Adisesha struck the ground with his tail and created a spring and offered water. Hence the name Sesha Theertham. Sri Desikan had written many books on Lord.
