History of the place

The divine cow Kamadhenu is relieved of its curse by Sage Vasishta by spilling the milk on the Lord under the Vanni tree and got back its divinity. Hence the name Palvanna (milk) nathar. The scar created by Kamadhenu on Lord's head and chest is seen even today as she ran away in fear when Sage Valmiki came here to pray to the Lord here.

Speciality of this temple

The lord is Swayambu Murthi and the Vimana is in Chaturvastham design. The lingam is made of amirtham (nectar). The Vedas worshipped here.Pongal is offered as Nivedhana to Lord. Apyayya Deekshhidar worshipped from Velachery. As Appayya Dishithar, a great devotee and scholar on sanskrit literatures was unable to see the Lord's face due to flood, the Lord turned west and granted darshan. The Lord gave darshan to Sage Valmiki and Sage Agasthya under the Vanni tree. The Lord taught Sage Agasthya about the medicinal qualities of herbals and the medicines for various diseases, hence he is called a s Marundeeswarar (Marundhu in Tamil language means medicine and Easwar - God, the God of Medicines. Devas, Surya, Brungi sage also worshipped here. Sage Valmiki attained moksha at this place on the full moon day of Tamil Panguni month.

Pariharam

People pray here to cure all types of illness and to end the sins and attain salvation.

Pariharam Procedure

Milk abisheka to Lord and consuming Vibuthi (sacred ash) as prasad to cure prolonged illness and relief from sins. Also, circumambulating the sacred Vanni tree is believed to lead to salvation. Vastras are offered to Lord and Mother.
