When Lord Brahmma did yajna without the participation of Mother Saraswathi, She sent demons to stop the yajna. Lord Brahmma begged Lord Vishnu to pacify Mother Saraswathi. The Lord did as per Brahmma's request and killed the demons. Then Lord Vishnu with blood stains all over his body (colour of pavalam - coral ) gave darshan. Thus he gets this name as "Pavala Vanna Perumal". Aadhisesha - the divine serpent acts as umbrella to this Lord.
Mangalasaasanam (hymns) by Thirumangai Azhwar. This is the 56th divya desam.
This Perumal appears red in colour and is in sitting posture on Aadhisesha facing west. It is said that Lord Vishnu blessed his devotees in milk colour in Krudha Yuga, Red colour (Pavalam - coral) in Thretha Yuga, Green in Dwapara Yuga and Blue colour in Kali yuga. When Sage Brugu went to Vaikundam to have darshan of Vishnu, the Lord though noticed his presence, avoided him and interacted with Mother Mahalakshmi. Enraged by the insult, Sage Brugu kicked Vishnu's chest. But the Lord carressed the sage's legs. Realizing his mistake, Sage Brugu came to this place called Sathya Skethram (Place of "Truth") and did penance as per Sage Narada's advice. Lord Vishnu appeared before him and relieved his curse.
It is believed that a holy dip in the Chakra Theertham brings prosperity in family and removes the sins and doshas.
Special abishekas to the Lord and Mother. It is also the strong belief that whoever prays to the Ashtadikpalakas paintings (8 Vedic Hindu Gods who rule and preside over the 8 directions of the physical space) that appear on the ceiling of the Piravaala Valli's shrine, will get their obstacles vanished with regard to land and building doshas and also get prosperity.
