History of the place

Sage Gautama cursed Indira (Head of Devas) to have eyes throughout his body for misbehaving with his wife Akalya. Indira saw this Lord Shiva among the Karai bushes in this place and relieved of his curse.

Thirugnana Sambandhar. It is the 275th Devara sthalam.

Speciality of this temple

The lingam is Swayambu murthi facing west. The lingam changes its colour to red in uthrayanam and white in dakshyanam . Mercury (Lord Budha Bhagavan) worshipped this Lord to get a place among the planets. Lord Dakshinamurthi is found with 7 disciples.

Pariharam Procedure

Devotees bathe in the theertham (spring) and offer green colour vastram and neivedyam made of green gram to Mercury - budha bhagavan.
