History of the place

Thirumazhisai Azhwar was born as the incarnation of Perumal's divine Chakra in His hand. He had the divinity to bring youthness to anyone. On drinking the leftover milk that was given to this azhwar, his foster parents became young again and gave birth to Kanikannan, who later became the Azhwar's disciple. Thirumazhisai azhwar came to this place and served this Lord for many years. As per the old lady's wish at the Ashram, he made her young again. Mesmerized by her beauty, a Pallava king married her. The king wanted to become young again, as his wife was always young. But Kanikannan refused as it could not be granted to everyone. The enraged king decided to exile Kanikannan. As the Azhwar decided to go along with Kanikannan, he told the Lord to come along with them as the Lord has nothing to do in their absence. Bound by their devotion, the Lord went with them along with Aadhisesha. Hence, he is called "Sonna Vannam Seidha Perumal".

Saints who worshiped

Mangalasaasanam (hymns) by Poigai Azhwar, Thirumangai Azhwar, Thirumazhisai Azhwar, Peiazhwar. This is the 52nd divya desam.

Speciality of this temple

Perumal's sleeping posture in most of the temples is from left to right. But here, as the Lord went with Thirumazhisai Azhwar, came back and then lie down, it is from right to left. The Lord blesses the devotees under Vedasara Vimana facing west. This place is the birth place of Poigai Azhwar. As he was born in a lotus pond ("Potrramarai"in tamil language) pond, hence the name.

Pariharam

Just as the Lord listened to Thirumazhisai Azhwar's words, it is believed that the Lord listens to His devotees problems too and nullify them.

Pariharam Procedure

Devotees perform Thirumanjanam (Abisheka) to the Lord and Mother.
