History of the place

Sage Bharadwaja, son of Lord Guru (Jupiter) was born as Black Drongo (Karikuruvi in Tamil). He worshipped Lord Shiva in many places. When he worshipped this place, he prayed to a lingam under a Kondrai tree. The lord removed his sin and promoted him as the King of all birds. Hence this place is called Validayam and the Lord is called "Valiyanathar".

Speciality of this temple

The Lord is Swayambu murthi and his Vimana is in Gajaprushta shape (backside of an elephant). As lord Shiva has all the rights(Dayam) to receive prayers (Pali), he is called "Palidayar" and this place is known as "Palidayam". This is the place where Lord Vinayaka married Kamalai and Valli - daughters of Lord Brahmaa. Prugaspathi (Jupiter) worshipped this Lord as advised by Markandeya Maharishi, and relieved from the curse of Menaka, wife of Prugaspathi's elder brother.

Prayers on full moon days will grant total salvation. Special puja to Guru on thursdays with yellow colour vastras to remove Guru doshas.
