History of the place

Suseendram, a holy place in Kanyakumari district was once know as Gnanaranyam (Jungle of wisdom). Saptha Rishis were performing penance here. Lord granted darshan in the form of Lord Shiva. When they prceeded to Soma Theertha Ghat to have the darshan of Lord Vishnu as Vishnu Himself, the Lord granted fulfilled their wish and they prayed the Lord to stay in this place. Lord granted their wish and graces the devotees as Lord of Wisdom in this place.

Speciality of this temple

The idol of Lord Thirvazh Marban (Lord in whose chest Mother Mahalakshmi resides) is in sitting posture and is made of Kadu Sarkarai Yogam (a mixture of stone and lime and coated with a glue made with sugar and mustard). Avathar place of Saint Nammazhwar and his mother. Udaya Nangai and Kaarimaran (chieftain of Kurunadu) married each other but had no child for many years. When they prayed to Lord Nambi in Thirukurungudi, the Lord promised them that he HImself to be born to them and advised them that the child be taken to the Tamarind tree in (Azhwar)Thirunagari and assured that He as a child would bring great reputation to them. When the child was taken to the tamarind tree, it simply climbed the tree with Gnana Mudra and meditated up Lord Aadhi Nathan and was in penance for 16 years.

Pariharam

People pray for removal of obstacles in marriage and also for prosperity in education.
